Terms of Reference
Introduction:
Education, whether adult education targeted at geomatics professionals or education involving younger students who may potentially enter our geomatics profession is an enormous and complex subject. Given that this will be the first education committee for the Geomatics Association of Nova Scotia, it is suggested that the goals of the Committee remain specific and obtainable in order to build on some early successes.
Goals / Role of the GANS Education Workgroup:
- Provide education opportunities for the members of GANS. This may be accomplished through seminars, lunch and learns, partnering with other associations, or through other GANS events.
- Engage Nova Scotia geography students with geomatics. GANS members should be encouraged to actively participate in talking to and engaging geography students in the classrooms in our Nova Scotia Public education system. The Workgroup will strive to provide opportunities for the membership to do this.
- The Workgroup must communicate regularly with the Communications Workgroup in order to promote upcoming education related events and to report on the success of any events held.
Members and Chair person(s):
The GANS Education Workgroup should consist of no more than 6 people. Workgroup membership is open to any member of the Association in good standing. A Chair will be appointed by the Board who will serve a one-year term.
Governance:
The GANS Education Workgroup will report directly to Board of the Geomatics Association of Nova Scotia.
Meetings:
The GANS Education Workgroup will meet as required. The Committee is urged to meet, collaborate, or connect through innovative, technology-driven methods.
Remuneration:
The GANS Education Workgroup members serve without remuneration.
Amending Procedures:
The Board of the Geomatics Association of Nova Scotia must approve amendments to these Terms of Reference.
