GIS-Driven real estate analysis: A local case study of applied geomatics

At its core, real estate analysis is a spatial science, and thus a source of opportunity for GIS professionals. This presentation provides a local case study where GIS technology has been blended with real estate appraisal techniques to create a unique, customised analytical tool: an "Accelerated Valuation Model". What began as a student project has evolved into a flexible tool used in many interesting and unconventional consulting assignments, ranging from demand analysis to heritage property studies. This presentation will include an overview of the GIS tools used in the model alongside local case studies of its use.

James is a COGS graduate and consultant/GIS specialist with Turner Drake & Partners Ltd. in Halifax, NS.
