    Strum Consulting, a leader in survey, environmental and engineering consulting since 1995, is expanding our Engineering and Surveying Department and has an opening in our Antigonish office for licensed land surveyor or articling student with a geomatics engineering degree to be part of our team.

    At Strum, we provide legal land survey services through several certified Nova Scotia Land Surveyors. We currently have projects that require additional surveying support in the areas of residential development, commercial and industrial development, wind farm development, design/build projects, municipal engineering, as well as other types of projects.

    The requirements for this position are:

    • Candidates will be registered as a Nova Scotia Land Surveyor, or capable of becoming registered in a reasonable time frame. Minimum 5 years related experience.
    • Professional Engineer, licensed or eligible for membership with Engineers Nova Scotia preferred
    • Consulting background an asset

    • Comfortable meeting with clients and exploring new business opportunities

    Technical Capabilities for our Areas of Interest shall be:

    • Design and prepare survey drawings, plans, reports, sketches & diagrams for the following types of projects:

      • Boundary Retracement Surveys
      • Construction-related projects
      • Topographic and volume surveys

    • Perform research, computations and boundary analysis for legal surveys and survey related projects.

    Role and Responsibilities - Duties may vary by job:

    • Develop and support a variety of Web and Mobile GIS apps across the various JDI business units.

    • Collaborate with developers, business analysts and project teams to add new features and functionality to web-based products

    • Focus on leveraging the Esri platform to deliver various location-based applications for the Forestry, Transportation, Agriculture, Retail and other JDI Industries
    • Identify, communicate and overcome development problems and creative challenges related to complex web-based Esri platform.
    • Keep current with programming languages/platforms within the web development/web application space.

    Education Requirements - Knowledge & Skills:
    • University Degree or Community College Diploma with a focus on Geographic Information Systems or Computer Science
    • 2-5 years minimum experience as a web developer.
    • Proven experience using the Esri platform including; ArcGIS 10.x, Python, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Online is required
    • Proficient with Esri's Web Application Interfaces (APIs) especially ArcGIS API for JavaScript and ArcGIS REST API
    • Strongly proficient in writing JavaScript and JavaScript object model
    • Experience in using source code management (GIT)
    • Experience in data review and validation for quality assurance purposes
    • Training or experience using Spatial Analyst, Network Analyst, Statistical Analysis, 3D Analyst and Image Server extensions will be considered an asset
    • Training or experience using Esri's mobile platform including; Collector, Explorer, Survey123 on iOS or Android will be considered an asset
    • Previous experience working with remote teams considered an asset
    • Team oriented individual with excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • DevOps experience (Azure DevOps) considered an asset

    Description of Work:

    The majority of work will be focused on following procedures and methodologies for application development, monitoring and ensuring hosted database system availability.

    The first component of the work, requires the contract GIS Application Developer to learn and to become proficient in the knowledge of the Client’s businesses, Geographic Solutions Team standards, procedures, environment and the various hosted databases.

    The second component and the majority of the work, requires the candidate to work as part of the Geographic Solutions Team, performing application development, monitoring and testing duties to ensure hosted database system availability.

    The third component of the work involves providing assistance to the Supervisor with other application related problems and issues.

    Skill Sets Required:

    Successful candidate(s) should have 1-2 years’ experience in working with ESRI products and their associated files, as well as 2-3 years’ experience as a software developer using C#, ArcGIS JavaScript, jQuery and Dojo. Software development in a GIS environment and any experience in Information Technology (IT) understanding file management and how IT devices work would be considered an asset.

    Salary: $24.00 - $26.00 per hour depending upon qualifications. Work day is 7 hours.
