The Department of Municipal Affairs and Housing is dedicated to working with municipalities to build healthy, vibrant, and safe communities throughout Nova Scotia. Municipal Affairs provides programs, grants, and funding opportunities for municipalities and community groups. The Department also provides services and guidance to municipalities in many areas including land use planning, budget planning and finance, infrastructure development, policy and program development, and support for economic development through the management of the Regional Enterprise Network program.

The Department of Municipal Affairs and Housing is also responsible for ensuring the availability of safe, suitable, and affordable housing for all Nova Scotians. Our work involves making strategic investments, leveraging new funding, and building on critical partnerships to help further position ourselves to meet current and future housing challenges.

About Our Opportunity

This exciting, new graduate opportunity will have a focus on assisting with the design, collection, management and publication of digital data, maps and related information. You will have the opportunity to design and implement software solutions within a Geographic Information System (GIS) environment. Your projects will focus on preparing data for publication, developing custom applications in ArcGIS for all divisions within the Department of Municipal Affairs and Housing and furthering the development of the Locus (land use planning and economic growth) web app.

About You

You must have graduated within the past three (3) years from a related university or community college program in the field of GIS.

In Addition, This Position Requires
  • Experience with ArcGIS suite of software;
  • The ability to work in a team environment;
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written);
  • Data analysis experience; and
  • A valid driver’s license and access to reliable motor vehicle.
The Following Will Be Considered Assets, Including
  • Education and/or experience in land use planning;
  • Experience in teaching and training people in software use; and
  • Experience in cartography and Nova Scotia geospatial data sets.
We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Other Considerations

Please note, this position is anticipated to be a one-year term from the start date of the successful candidate.

Pay Grade: PR 06

Salary Range: $1,870.71 - $1,945.36 Bi-Weekly
